The Idaho State Police District 2 Detectives office is located in Lewiston the county seat of Nez Perce County.
Our Detectives respond to criminal activities including: illicit drug laboratories, indoor and outdoor marijuana grow operations, homicides, embezzlement, major crime scenes and other requests for assistance from our local law enforcement partners in the district.
Lewiston, and its neighboring city Clarkston, Washington are located at the confluence of the Clearwater and Snake rivers. The Lewis Clark Valley is the economic, transportation and population hub of the North Central Idaho area. The valley provides access to Hells Canyon as well as a variety of other nearby outdoor recreational areas. The area is home to three major colleges and universities; Lewis Clark State College in Lewiston, the University of Idaho in Moscow and Washington State University in Pullman, Wa.
The “Quad Cities” (Lewiston and Moscow Idaho and Clarkston and Pullman Washington) are within forty miles of each other and very inter-dependant. Criminals travel freely between the communities and it is not unusual for some to commit crimes in both states on the same day.
Located in the middle of major north/south as well and east/west regional travel routes, the Lewiston valley has been a stopping off point for travelers ranging from the native Nez Perce tribe and the Lewis & Clark Expedition to modern outdoor recreationists. Lewiston’s easy access to hunting and fishing as well as its temperate four season climate has contributed to its population growth. Of course, with an increase in population comes a commensurate increase in criminal activity.
