Idaho State Police Investigates Crash In Bingham County

(Updated Release: February 2, 2024, at 8:25 p.m.)
ISP continues investigating the fatal crash that occurred yesterday afternoon on 600 N between Reid Road and 1100 E (Mountain View Rd), south of Goshen.

At this point, investigating troopers believe the patrol vehicle, driven by a 38-year-old female deputy with the Bingham County Sheriff's Office, was traveling westbound on 600 North when it drifted across the middle of the road and entered the eastbound lane of travel and collided with the eastbound 2002 Dodge Ram 2500. Following the collision, both vehicles came to a stop off the roadway. All occupants were trapped in their vehicles until extricated by medical/rescue personnel.

The driver of the Ram, an 80-year-old man, succumbed to his injuries at the scene, and the passenger, a 76-year-old female, was transported by ground ambulance for serious injuries. Both occupants were from Shelley.

The deputy, who has approximately nine years of patrol experience, was transported by ground ambulance with critical injuries.

ISP continues investigating the incident.

(Original Release: February 1, 2024)
BINGHAM COUNTY, Idaho - Just after 1 p.m. this afternoon, Bingham County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) responded to a crash involving one of their deputies with another vehicle in the 600 block of N 1100 E (Mountain View Rd), south of Goshen.

Arriving deputies located the crash and provided emergency medical aid to the male driver of a Ford F-250 pickup. The driver succumbed to his injuries. The female passenger in the F-250 sustained injuries. The female deputy, who drove a marked Ford SUV, suffered serious injuries. Both females were transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

BCSO requested the Idaho State Police (ISP) investigate the crash. The factors and dynamics of the incident are under investigation. However, preliminary findings indicate that the occupants of the F-250 were not wearing seatbelts while the deputy did.

The roadway remains closed for the investigation but is expected to open shortly. Motorists should avoid the area.

Shelley-Firth QRU, Firth Fire Department, Blackfoot Fire Department, and Blackfoot Ambulance assisted with the incident.

ISP will respond to media inquiries and provide updates as information becomes available.
