Idaho State Police are investigating a vehicle collision that occurred on 1/6/2024, at approximately 1732 hours at the intersection of Old Priest River Road and Mathews Ridge Drive in Bonner County Idaho. 
The driver of a Chevy SUV driving on Old Priest River Road failed to yield to oncoming traffic while turning left onto Mathews Ridge Drive, colliding head on with a Chevy Suburban. The impact caused both vehicles to lose control and come to rest just off the roadway.

The SUV was occupied by a 62-year-old male driver and a 65-year-old female passenger, both from Priest River, Idaho. The driver did not appear to be wearing a seatbelt. The driver was taken to a nearby hospital by ground ambulance, and the passenger by private conveyance. The driver of the Suburban, a 31-year-old woman from Priest River, Idaho was wearing a seat belt. She suffered minor suspected injuries and was not transported to the hospital. 

Traffic on Old priest River Road was slowed as emergency responders worked to investigate the scene and clear the area.

Evidence was found on scene to indicate that alcohol may have been involved in this crash. That evidence is part of the ongoing investigation.

On 1/10/2024, The driver of the SUV was pronounced deceased at a local hospital due to injuries sustained in the crash. Next of kin have been notified. 

This incident remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
