General Training

The ISP Training Section is dedicated to cultivating exceptional law enforcement professionals who protect and serve the citizens and visitors of our state as troopers in one of six patrol districts. Our rigorous 18-week academy transforms recruits with basic POST certification into proficient and ethical officers entrusted with safeguarding our state’s roadways, responding to crises, and maintaining peace within our communities.

Our comprehensive curriculum, continually updated to reflect legal and social changes, spans approximately 1,098 hours of instruction. It covers crucial areas such as traffic operations, investigations, officer safety, humanities, and support services. Training equips troopers with the knowledge and skills necessary for success in the dynamic field of law enforcement.

The ISP Training Section plays a pivotal role as a coordinating body, facilitating the development and delivery of specialized training for both commissioned and non-commissioned employees throughout Idaho. Collaboration extends beyond our agency to encompass training other law enforcement entities.

In a significant milestone, the Training Section transitioned to a centralized function in June 1993, relocating to the newly constructed Meridian, Idaho facility in 1994. Since then, more than 55 classes of Idaho State Police Troopers have graduated from our program, ready to serve their state and its citizens with distinction.
