08/22/2024 I-90 Multiple-vehicle crash

KOOTENAI COUNTY, IDAHO:
The Idaho State Police is investigating a multiple-vehicle crash which occurred on 08/22/2024 at 4:10 pm, on Interstate 90 westbound at milepost 9, near Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

At the time of the crash, traffic was heavy and beginning to slow. A total of 5 vehicles were involved: A silver 2012 Cascadia Freightliner with semi trailer, brown 2023 Chevrolet Silverado, gray 2020 Subaru Crosstrek, white 2016 Ford F-150 towing a utility trailer, and an unidentified fifth vehicle towing a dump trailer.

The Silver Cascadia Freightliner was traveling westbound entering slowed traffic when it impacted the brown Chevrolet Tahoe. This resulted in the Chevrolet Tahoe striking the Subaru Crosstrek. The Subaru Crosstrek then struck trailer being towed by the white Ford F-150. The Ford F-150 struck the dump trailer being towed by the unidentified fifth vehicle. The left lane of the Interstate was blocked by the crash.

The driver of the brown Chevrolet Tahoe, a 49 year-old male from Post Falls, Idaho, was transported to the hospital via ambulance for crash-related injuries. The driver of the gray Subaru Crosstrek, a 25 year-old female from Hayden, Idaho, was transported to the hospital via private party for observation.

The driver of the silver 2012 Cascadia Freightliner, a 74 year-old male from Grants Pass, Oregon, was cited for following too closely. The fifth vehicle towing the dump trailer was not identified, as it left the scene of the crash before responders arrived. The Interstate was blocked for 1 hour and 22 minutes while responders rendered aid. This crash remains under investigation.
