4-Vehicle Fatal Crash on Interstate 90 in Post Falls

The Idaho State Police are investigating a four-vehicle fatality collision that occurred on Monday, September 8th, 2025, at approximately 4:03 P.M. in the westbound lanes Interstate 90 near milepost 2 in Post Falls.

A gray 2013 Toyota Prius, driven by a 58-year-old male of Livingston, Montana, was traveling eastbound on Interstate 90 when the vehicle failed to negotiate a right curve. The Prius then left the roadway off the north shoulder, crossed the center median, and entered the westbound lanes of the Interstate. A 2024 Volvo semi-truck, occupied by a 38-year-old male and 37-year-old female both from Spokane, Washington, was traveling westbound. The Prius struck the rear end of the semi-trailer. The semi-truck/trailer and the Prius came to rest on the Interstate and sustained significant damage from the collision.

During the crash, a white 2019 Ford F350 pickup truck occupied by a 23-year-old male from Spokane, Washington, and a white 2019 Toyota Tundra pickup truck occupied by a 34-year-old male from Priest River, Idaho, were also struck. These vehicles sustained minor damage.

The driver and co-driver of the Volvo semi, driver of the Ford F-350, and the driver of the Toyota Tundra, reported no injuries. The driver of the Toyota Prius succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene.

Next of kin has been notified. Westbound traffic along Interstate 90 was closed for approximately 3 ½ hours while responders worked on the scene. The Interstate was reopened for normal use at 7:44 P.M.

Assisting agencies included the Post Falls Police Department, Coeur d’Alene Police Department, Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, Kootenai County Fire Rescue, Kootenai County Coroner’s Office, and Idaho Transportation Department.

This incident remains under investigation.
