Officer-Involved Shooting Incident in Owyhee County

OWYHEE COUNTY, Idaho – Late Saturday morning, March 2, 2024, Idaho State Police (ISP) investigators were asked by the Owyhee County Sheriff's Department to investigate a shooting incident involving law enforcement officers with the U.S. Department of Interior Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA).

ISP investigators learned BIA law enforcement pursued a vehicle from the Duck Valley Reservation in Nevada into Idaho. Once in Owyhee County, the male driver ran from his vehicle and shots were fired. Although immediate first aid was provided, the male died from the injuries he sustained.

The incident remains under investigation, with detectives working to determine what initiated the pursuit and the timeline of events that led to shots being fired.

The Owyhee County Coroner's Office took custody of the deceased and will determine the male's identity as well as the cause and manner of his death.

Updates will be provided when available.
