Idaho State Police Investigate a Two-Vehicle Fatal Crash in Gooding County

Idaho State Police is investigating a two-vehicle collision that occurred Wednesday, June 26th, 2024, at approximately 10:28 P.M., westbound Interstate 84 (I-84) at milepost 157, outside of Wendell, in Gooding County.

A 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, driven by an unidentified adult male, was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes on I-84 milepost 157 when the Chevrolet collided, head-on, with a 2023 Volvo semi-truck, driven by a 36-year-old male, with a 35-year-old female passenger, both from North Highlands, California. The Chevrolet overturned and came to rest in the median. The semi-truck drove through the median, across the eastbound lanes, through a right-a-way fence before coming to a rest on Frontage Road.

The driver of the Chevrolet was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The occupants of the semi were wearing their seatbelts and were not transported.

Traffic was reduced to one lane, for approximately four hours, to allow emergency responders to assist those involved.

The Idaho State Police was assisted with the investigation by the Gooding County Sheriff?s Office, Gooding County Rural Fire, and Gooding County EMS, Jerome Police Department.

This incident remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police
