***UPDATE***

On Monday, August 24, 2020, at 1:14 P.M., Idaho State Police responded to a three-vehicle fatality crash southbound SH55 at milepost 83.5, north of Banks.

A 2002 Chevrolet Silverado was driving southbound, attempting to pass a 2016 Freightliner Semi that was in the slow moving vehicle turnout. The Chevrolet Silverado crossed the center line in the northbound lanes and struck a 2019 Kenworth Semi head on.

The driver and passenger of the Chevrolet succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Next of kin has been notified. The driver of the Kenworth was transported by air ambulance to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. The passenger of the Kenworth was transported by ground ambulance to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. All occupants in all vehicles were wearing seatbelts.

All lanes of travel were blocked for approximately 5 hours. All lanes are now back open.
