Suspect faces multiple felonies after fleeing from ISP during traffic stop

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho – Monday, June 9, Idaho State Police (ISP) dispatch received a report of a driver failing to maintain their lane, running off the road, almost striking other vehicles, and speeding. At approximately 8:28 p.m., ISP conducted a traffic stop on the reported vehicle—a 2023 white Toyota Camry—traveling northbound on Interstate 15 for a traffic violation. The stop occurred at a Love’s truck stop in Bonneville County.

The driver was identified as 43-year-old Joshua Edward Maddock of Pocatello. During the interaction, the trooper observed signs of impairment and established probable cause for a vehicle search. During the stop, Maddock became argumentative and attempted to re-enter his vehicle. After a physical altercation, a taser was deployed multiple times in an effort to subdue him but was ineffective. Maddock then forcibly entered his vehicle and fled the scene, crashing through portions of the fueling facility causing damage to the truck stop.

Shortly after fleeing, the vehicle was located at Rush’s Truck Repair, after it had crashed through the entrance gate and came to a stop. When the vehicle was located, it was abandoned. With assistance from Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office and Shelley Police Department, Maddock was located hiding on the property.

“This all started with a phone call. A concerned citizen reported a driver speeding and swerving, which quickly turned into something much more serious. This is a powerful reminder that when the public and law enforcement work together, we can keep our communities safer. If you see something suspicious or dangerous on the road, don’t hesitate to call *ISP (*477) or 911,” Captain Weadick said.

Maddock was booked on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges:

Felony Charges:

  • Eluding in a Vehicle
