ISAC’s Crime in Idaho Data Dashboard Now Includes 20 Years of Idaho Crime Data

The Idaho Statistical Analysis Center (ISAC) is pleased to announce the annual update to the Crime in Idaho Data Dashboard. The dashboard now includes a full 20 years of crime data covering 2005 to 2024. The data is collected annually from state and local law enforcement agencies through the Idaho Uniform Crime Reporting Program.

Some state-level highlights from this year’s update:

  • In 2024, the total offense rate dropped 4.2% from 2023 to 49.6 offenses per 1,000 residents. This is 49% lower than the 2005 rate (97.4), and the lowest point in that time span. The long-term drop in the offense rate was driven by large decreases in the rates of crimes against persons (down 35% since 2005), crimes against property (down 66%), and Group B offenses (these include DUI, disorderly conduct, loitering, and other less serious offenses; down 59%).

  • The only group of offenses that saw a rate increase since 2005 was crimes against society (up 33%, from 9.8 offenses per 1,000 residents in 2005 to 13.0 in 2024), although this category did decrease 11% from 2023 levels (14.5). The long-term increase was driven by an increase in the rate of drug offenses (up 37% from 2005; down 11% from 2023). In 2024, drug offenses accounted for nearly a quarter (24%) of all offenses recorded that year, up from 9% in 2005 but down from 26% in 2023.

  • In 2024, there were 98,891 total offenses recorded by law enforcement, marking the first time since at least 2005 that the total number of offenses in one calendar year was less than 100,000. The 98,891 offenses recorded in 2024 is 4% lower than 2023 (103,360) and 29% lower than 2005 (138,916).

  • Despite mirroring the long-term decrease in crimes against persons from 2005 to 2023, the intimate partner violence offense rate increased 3% from 2023 (2.9 offenses per 1,000 residents) to 2024 (3.0). However, this is still 34% lower than 2005 (4.5). Similarly, the sexual assault offense rate only dropped 0.1% from 2023 (0.972) to 2024 (0.971) after dropping 24% from 2021 to 2023.

Additional data on county-level crime rates, victim and offender demographics, incident characteristics such as location type and time of day, number of arrests made, and more can be viewed on the dashboard.

The Crime in Idaho Data Dashboard allows users to explore much of the data housed in the Idaho Incident-Based Reporting System, Idaho’s vast repository of law enforcement data on criminal incidents that occur within Idaho and the same data set that drives the annual Crime in Idaho report series. Agency, county, and state data from between 2005 and 2024 can be visualized in one place, allowing for customizable views and quick trend analysis. Data updates are provided annually on or around July 1st. This project is a collaborative effort between ISAC and the Idaho Uniform Crime Reporting Program, both of which are components of the Idaho State Police.

The Idaho Statistical Analysis Center (ISAC) is located within the Pass-Through Grants and Research Department of the Idaho State Police. The mission of ISAC is to disseminate research, data and statistics related to crime, illegal drugs, victim services, and the administration of justice in Idaho.
