ISP to increase patrols starting today in Jerome work zone
JEROME, Idaho — The Idaho State Police is increasing patrols on Interstate 84 through the Jerome widening and interchange project, starting today and continuing through the Fourth of July weekend.
To help keep holiday traffic safe, troopers will conduct emphasis patrols in the large work zone between Jerome and Twin Falls. The holiday period sees a higher risk of serious crashes due to increased travel and impaired driving.
“This is a busy stretch of highway under construction, and with more people on the road for the holiday, it’s especially important to stay alert and drive responsibly,” Lieutenant Tyler Barrett said. “We’re increasing patrols to help keep everyone safe—from families headed to celebrations, to the crews working in the construction zone.”
ISP reminds drivers that safety starts before you even leave the driveway — whether it’s planning a sober ride or making sure your vehicle is road-ready.
Before you hit the road:
- Check your vehicle. Inspect tires, brakes, lights, and fluid levels.
- Pack an emergency kit. Include water, snacks, jumper cables, a flashlight, basic tools, a first-aid kit, and a phone charger.
- Plan your route. Allow extra time, check traffic, and avoid peak travel hours when possible.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, from 2019 to 2023, more than 2,650 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes over the Fourth of July holiday. Of those, 40% involved an impaired driver.
Drivers who witness dangerous driving or require emergency assistance should call 911 or *ISP (*477).
