Public should expect increased patrols as Bear Lake welcomes summer crowds, festivalgoers

BEAR LAKE, Idaho – With the annual Bear Lake Raspberry Days beginning today and summer crowds surging, the public should expect an increased law enforcement presence in the area.

To handle the daily influx of more than 5,000 visitors—and even more during the three-day festival—Idaho State Police troopers have expanded patrols. In addition to vehicle patrols, troopers use ATVs to monitor the three-mile shoreline and deploy drones to assist with search and rescue efforts.

ISP partners with the Bear Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Idaho Department of Lands, and Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation to support public safety during the seasonal surge.

“Our goal is to keep people safe and help them enjoy Bear Lake responsibly,” Lieutenant Todd Orr said. “As the crowds grow, so does the need for a strong, visible law enforcement presence. And that’s exactly what we’re providing.”

Increased patrols will continue through the end of summer.
