**Below you will find instruction on different processes to assist with downloading and uploading your data.
How to Download your AncestryDNA file
- Go to your AncestryDNA “results page”.
- Click on Settings. It is in the top right corner.
- Scroll down to the “Download your raw DNA data” section and click Download Raw DNA Data.
- They may ask for your password or send a confirmation email.
- The zip file will download to your computer. Don’t unzip it.

How to Upload to GEDmatch
- If you don’t already have one, create an account on the GEDmatch website.
- Log in to your account.
- In the “File Uploads” section, select AncestryDNA.com.
- Fill in the required information, like the testee’s name. Click “yes” to allow comparisons.
- Click choose file, go to where you previously saved the downloaded Ancestry zip file, and select it.
- Click Upload. GEDmatch will process the file. A kit number will be provided once complete.

How to Upload to FamilyTreeDNA
- Log in to your FamilyTreeDNA account.
- Go to the “Upload Data” section or the “Autosomal Transfer” page.
- Follow the instructions for uploading your DNA file.
- The system will automatically process the file, and you will receive all of your autosomal matches.

How to Upload from FamilyTreeDNA to GEDmatch
To upload your Family Tree DNA file to GEDmatch, first download the raw DNA data from your account by going to Results & Tools, then Autosomal DNA, then Download Raw Data. Next, go to GEDmatch.com, log in, and select the option for “Generic Uploads” from the homepage to upload your file.
Step 1: Download your DNA file from Family Tree DNA
- Sign in to your Family Tree DNA account.
- Locate and select the Results & Tools tab.
- Select on Autosomal DNA.
- Choose the option for Download Raw Data.
- Click the “download” button to save the raw data file to your device.
Step 2: Upload your DNA file to GEDmatch
- Log in to GEDmatch.com.
- Once logged in, click on “Generic uploads (23andMe, FTDNA, AncestryDNA, most others)” upload link.
- Select “Choose File” and select the DNA file you have already downloaded from Family Tree DNA.
- Fill out the information required about the donor, including their name and sex.
- Select your desired privacy settings regarding law enforcement matching.
- Check the box for “I am not a robot”. Next, click “Upload”.
