ISP investigates fatal crash near the town of Athol

Athol, Idaho – Idaho State Police is investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash. At 07:58 a.m. on February 2, 2026, Idaho State Police (ISP) troopers responded to the report of an unknown injury rollover crash of a 94’ Jeep Wrangler located southbound US95 at milepost 451.  The 79 year old male driver was transported by ambulance to Kootenai Health where he was pronounced deceased. Both southbound lanes of US95 were closed for approximately 10 minutes. One lane was then opened and both lanes were open approximately 2 hours later. Next of kin was notified. The Idaho State Police would like to thank the Idaho Transportation Department for assistance with traffic control, and Timberlake Fire for medical response. The crash is still under investigation by the Idaho State Police
