Idaho State Police Investigating Accidental Discharge Following Mountain Home Incident

On March 13, 2026, the Idaho State Police (ISP) assisted the Mountain Home Police Department with a report of an armed male near Mountain Home High School. Multiple schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution while officers from the Mountain Home Police Department, Elmore County Sheriff’s Office, and Idaho State Police secured the area and located the suspect.

The individual, identified as 63-year-old Ross Allen Lee, was taken into custody without incident. According to the Mountain Home Police Department, the suspect has been charged with three counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and one count of Animal Cruelty. No students, officers, or members of the public were injured during the incident.

After the scene was cleared, an accidental firearm discharge occurred inside an ISP patrol vehicle. No one was injured.

ISP is conducting an internal administrative review of the discharge in accordance with agency policy. The investigation remains ongoing.
