On February 4, 2020 at approximately 3:36 p.m. a fatal crash occurred on US95 at milepost 493, thirteen miles south of Bonners Ferry, Idaho. A blue 2003 Toyota Camry driven by Randall P. Merrifield, 55, of Naples, Idaho was traveling northbound when Mr. Merrifield lost control of his vehicle and traveled into the southbound lanes where he struck a semi-tractor with a loaded chip trailer driven by James D. Biddix, 52, of Sedro Woolley, Washington. Mr. Merrifield was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The roadway was blocked for approximately nine hours. Next of kin has been notified and the investigation is ongoing.
