Idaho State Police urges visitors to put safety first as Raspberry Days begins

BEAR LAKE, Idaho — As thousands of people head to Bear Lake for Raspberry Days, Idaho State Police is urging visitors to make safety a priority following several tragic incidents in the area this season.

With heavier traffic, crowded roadways and more people enjoying the lake and surrounding recreation areas, troopers will expand patrols throughout the weekend. Additional resources, including ATVs and drones, have been mobilized to improve response capabilities along the shoreline, in off-road areas and during periods of high activity.

ISP is working alongside the Bear Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Idaho Department of Lands and Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation to coordinate resources and respond quickly to emergencies throughout the festival weekend.

“We’ve seen firsthand how quickly a fun day can turn tragic,” Capt. Clint Skinner said. “As we welcome thousands of visitors for Raspberry Days, we’re asking everyone to slow down, wear a seat belt, wear a life jacket on the water and never drive impaired. A few responsible decisions can make the difference between a safe weekend and a tragedy.”

ISP will maintain an increased law enforcement presence throughout the end of summer.
