Single Vehicle Fatal Crash in Gem County
Gem County, Idaho – The Idaho State Police is currently investigating a single-vehicle fatality crash that occurred September 11th, 2026, around 6:27 P.M., northbound Sweet-Ola Highway near milepost 10, in Gem County, Idaho.
A blue 1996 Toyota SUV, driven by a 63-year-old female from Ontario, Oregon, was northbound on Sweet-Ola Highway near milepost 10 when the driver failed to maintain her lane of travel. The driver drove off the road on the right shoulder and overcorrected. The driver then came back onto the roadway, driving across both the north and southbound lanes of travel and off the roadway on the west side of the highway where the vehicle overturned. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt. The driver succumbed to their injuries on scene.
Sweet-Ola Highway was closed in both directions for approximately 3 hours and 6 minutes. The Idaho State Police was assisted by the Gem County Sheriff’s Office, Gem County Fire & EMS.
This crash remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
