On Tuesday, July 05, 2016, at 6:01 a.m. the Idaho State Police investigated a single vehicle crash on northbound on U.S. Highway 95 at milepost 170, near New Meadows.
Ryan Granlund, 32 of Ephrata, Washington, fell asleep while driving north bound on U.S. Highway 95 in a 2003 Dodge Ram pickup. He drifted across the southbound lanes into a borrow pit, paralleled the highway for 100 yards and collided with a power pole. The power pole snapped and fell blocking both the north and southbound lanes of the highway with live wires.
Both Granlund, and his passenger, Lasean Burdue-Troxclair, 25 of Ephrata, Washington were able to get themselves out of the vehicle and to safety. Neither were wearing seatbelts and were transported to St. Luke's McCall Medical Center by ground ambulance.
Both the northbound and southbound lanes were blocked for 3 hours. Idaho Power is still on scene and the highway is down to one lane while crews work on repairing the down power line. The Idaho Transportation Department is supplying traffic control for the area. It is unknown at this time how long until all lanes are completely opened.
This crash is under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
