On Sunday, June 21, 2015, at approximately 3:39 p.m., Idaho State Police investigated an injury crash in Blaine County on US Highway 93 at milepost 217, between Carey and the Craters of the Moon National Monument.
Carl Darnell, age 79, of Henderson Nevada, was travelling northeast on the highway in a 2007 Itasca motorhome pulling a 2011 Honda hatchback car.The RV left the roadway off the right shoulder. The vehicle re-entered the roadway, lost control, and again, left the roadway off the right shoulder where it overturned onto its driver's side.
Darnell and his passenger, Laura Darnell, age 78, were extricated from the vehicle and transported by ground ambulance to Saint Luke's Wood River Medical Center in Ketchum. They were both wearing seatbelts.
This crash is under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
