Total wages depend on numerous factors, such as incentive pay, CHOICE, and education, with increases subject to budget availability and approval.
New Recruit
Recruits start earning wages on their hire date and become eligible for overtime pay, holiday pay, and shift differential pay after completing the field training process and a one-year probation.

Lateral Trooper
We value prior law enforcement experience! Lateral trooper opportunities are available for individuals with a current Idaho POST Basic Patrol Certificate (or higher) or an equivalent from another state. Officers with at least three consecutive years of experience may also qualify for additional pay incentives.

- Retirement:
- ISP is one of 800 employers who are members of the Public Employee Retirement System of Idaho (PERSI).
- The PERSI Base Plan is a qualified tax-deferred plan under IRS Code Section 401(a), where both the employer and employee contribute. Employee contributions are credited to a personal account, while employer contributions are pooled in a trust fund that covers benefits for all members.
- PERSI is a defined benefit plan with pension benefits determined by the length of contribution with a five-year vesting schedule.
