On Monday July 9, 2012, the Idaho State Police assisted the Elmore County Sheriff's Office along with the Bureau of Land Management and Idaho Department of Transportation, with traffic control associated with the Benwalk Fire. This fire burned along Interstate 84 resulting in the closing of the Interstate from Exit 90, west of Mountain Home, to Exit 112, near Hammett. The Interstate was closed for approximately 4 1/2 hours, while fire crews from the BLM and surrounding agencies battled the blaze.
