Bingham County Driver Sentenced in Double Vehicular Manslaughter Case
Following a jury trial earlier this month, Andrew D. Blanchard was sentenced today for two counts of misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter stemming from a double fatality crash on I-15 in March 2023 in Bingham County. During the crash, Blanchard failed to maintain his lane and collided with another vehicle, resulting in the tragic deaths of two passengers.
The Honorable Judge Cleve B. Colson sentenced Blanchard to serve 360 days in jail, followed by four years of probation. The court also imposed a 10-year driver’s license suspension and mandated Blanchard’s participation in a drug court program, which aims to address substance abuse issues that contributed to the incident.
This case was prosecuted by Bingham County Prosecuting Attorney Ryan W. Jolley, who expressed gratitude for the diligent efforts of the Idaho State Police (ISP) in conducting a thorough investigation. District 5 Captain Clint Skinner also praised the meticulous work and dedication of Trooper Zachary Gabiola and Specialist Aaron Aikele, emphasizing their critical role in achieving justice for the victims and their families.
“The work of Trooper Gabiola and Specialist Aikele in this case exemplifies the professionalism, diligence, and compassion the Idaho State Police bring to every investigation,” said Captain Skinner. “Their tireless commitment to uncovering the truth and seeking justice for the victims and their families is a testament to our values as an agency. They have demonstrated the profound impact law enforcement can have in addressing tragedies like this, and I couldn’t be prouder of their dedication to ensuring public safety and accountability.”
ISP Director Colonel Bill Gardiner also reflected on the significance of the case. “This tragic incident underscores the importance of the work we do every day to make Idaho’s roads safer,” said Colonel Gardiner. “I commend Trooper Gabiola and Specialist Aikele for their dedication and professionalism in pursuing justice for the victims and their families. Their efforts reflect the Idaho State Police’s steadfast commitment to protecting our communities.”
The Idaho State Police extends its deepest condolences to the victims’ families and remains committed to working in local communities to reduce crime and keep residents safe.
