The number of troopers hired depends on the need at the time.  Typically, between 20-25 are hired from each announcement.

No – Hiring is done without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, or disability.

POST Council requires applicants to have two years of responsible work experience or two years of education after high school graduation/GED.

If you are considered for employment, ISP will request a list of preferred locations. We will do our best to accommodate your first choice, but assignments are made based on departmental needs.

Assignment or reassignment to any district in Idaho is possible. However, most moves are based on transfer requests or acceptance of a promotion in another area.

Troopers currently work four (4) 10-hour shifts per week with rotating days off. The schedule alternates between day and night shifts every two months.

Exceptions depend on the assignment. 

Bankruptcy is not an automatic disqualifier – Each case is individually reviewed.

However, other financial matters may be disqualifiers. 

ISP has specific requirements governing drug use and NO EXCEPTIONS are made.

However, the main items include clothing, coats, boots, hats, tools, handgun, rifle, ballistic vest, and patrol vehicle.

Yes, troopers have a vehicle assigned to them. They do not share and drive home at the end of each shift.
