Each year, Idaho State Police troopers extend their community service beyond patrol duties to provide holiday meals and essentials to families across Eastern Idaho.

The “10 Counties of Christmas” initiative, started in 2016 by ISP District 6 in Idaho Falls in partnership with Broulim’s grocery stores and Westmark Credit Union, is a testament to the power of community. Troopers join forces with local partners and residents to raise funds that help deliver warm holiday meals to families in ten counties: Bonneville, Madison, Fremont, Jefferson, Bingham, Teton, Clark, Butte, Custer, and Lemhi.

Starting in November, troopers visit Broulim’s locations throughout the area to collect financial donations that enable them to provide for families in need. Funds that are collected go towards Broulim’s and other partners to purchase food that will be delivered to the families. Thanks to the generosity of local patrons and business partners like Idaho Pork Producers, Gomm’s Warm Cookies, Idahoan, and others, troopers are able to spread holiday cheer to those who need it most. Last year, the program reached more than 475 families, each receiving a holiday meal package with essentials like hams, potatoes, turkeys, rolls, stuffing, canned goods, cookies, and drinks.

“Each year, we’re reminded that service is about more than just patrolling—it’s about uplifting those around us,” says Sgt. Blake Higley. “The 10 Counties of Christmas allows us to see this impact firsthand. When you hand someone a holiday meal and see the relief, gratitude, and joy in their eyes, it brings home why we’re here—to support others when they need it most. The holiday season is about togetherness and hope, and through this program, we’re building connections that make that spirit come alive for every family we reach. It’s amazing to watch generosity flow in—from a dollar in a jar to time volunteered. We’re honored to be part of making the season brighter for so many.”

Led by dedicated ISP personnel, both commissioned and civilian, the program mobilizes troopers and community members, including local high school students, to gather donations and deliver meals.

Always looking forward, the goal is to expand efforts to reach even more families each year and continue spreading holiday joy. When you see a trooper at Broulim’s during the holiday season, remember—every donation, big or small, contributes to this meaningful cause.

ISP is profoundly grateful for every contribution and the community’s steadfast support!
