Construction Underway for New ISP Forensic Lab in Jerome

JEROME, Idaho — The Idaho State Police (ISP) has officially begun constructing a standalone forensic lab at the District 4 office in Jerome. This state-of-the-art facility is expected to be completed within a year and will provide critical forensic support for law enforcement agencies.

The new lab will feature a dedicated chemistry unit specializing in the testing and analyzing controlled substances. This addition will significantly benefit local law enforcement by allowing evidence to be delivered directly to the lab, saving considerable time and resources previously spent transporting or mailing evidence to distant facilities. Furthermore, the lab’s proximity to local courts will enhance the efficiency of forensic testimony, streamlining judicial processes and improving case resolution times.

“This new lab is a game-changer for law enforcement and the justice system around the Magic Valley,” said ISP Forensic Services Director Matthew Gamette. “By bringing advanced forensic services closer to our communities, we’re strengthening our partnerships with local agencies and ensuring evidence is processed quickly and accurately. It’s a significant step forward in our mission to enhance public safety and support the criminal justice process.”

In preparation for the lab’s operation, ISP seeks a highly qualified forensic scientist with a physical science degree and specialized chemistry experience. Once hired, the new scientist will undergo extensive training with completion aligning with the lab’s anticipated finish.

“We are looking for someone passionate about forensic science who also understands the value of serving their community,” Gamette added. “This is an exceptional opportunity for a skilled scientist to make a meaningful impact in public safety while contributing to the success of Idaho’s law enforcement efforts.”

The new lab, a testament to ISP’s commitment to timely and accurate forensic services, will significantly enhance evidence processing and analysis speed and reliability, directly benefiting the safety and security of Idaho residents.
