On August 19th, 2020 at approximately 02:55 am, the Idaho State Police responded to an injury, blocking crash on SH53, MP 8, just south of Rathdrum. A green 1996 Chevy Trailblazer was traveling eastbound on SH53 and crossed left of center, striking a 2020 Freightliner semi near head-on. The driver of the Trailblazer was transported by ground ambulance to Kootenai Health and then to Sacred Heart Medical Center. The driver of the semi was not injured. Seatbelts were worn by both drivers, and the roadway was blocked for approximately 3.5 hours. The investigation is ongoing.
