Crash Causes Lengthy Blockage on I84 East of Jerome
JEROME, IDAHO – Idaho State Police is investigating a crash that occurred at approximately 1:58 p.m. on Sunday, October 27, 2024, on westbound I84 at milepost 170, in Jerome County, Idaho.
A 64-year-old-male from Dundee, Oregon, was traveling westbound in a 2016 Freightliner semi-truck pulling a trailer, when his vehicle experienced a tire failure. The semi struck the median and pushed the concrete barriers into the eastbound right shoulder barriers, before it struck two other vehicles, overturned and came to a rest on its side. The semi then caught fire, blocking all westbound and eastbound lanes.
A second vehicle involved was a 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by a 27-year-old female from Bellevue, Idaho. Several occupants from this vehicle were transported via ground ambulance to a local hospital.
A third vehicle involved was a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox driven by a 26-year-old female from Twin Falls, Idaho. No occupants were transported from this vehicle.
The driver of the semi truck was transported via air ambulance to a local hospital.
The eastbound lanes of I84 were blocked for approximately five hours and the westbound lanes were blocked for almost twelve hours to allow emergency responders to assist those involved and clear the scene. Traffic was temporarily diverted from westbound I84 to US Highway 93.
ISP was assisted by a Trooper from ISP District 3, the Jerome County Sheriff’s Office, Magic Valley Paramedics, the Idaho Transportation Department, Roadwork Ahead, Jerome Rural Fire Department, Eaton Towing, Air St. Luke’s, and the concrete crew working at the 400 South overpass.
This incident remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
