On June 17, 2017, at approximately 8:15 p.m., Idaho State Police investigated an injury crash on Interstate 84, near milepost 9, in Payette County, ID.
Sarah N. Daniel, 30, of Nampa, ID was driving westbound in a 1949 Willey's pickup truck. Also in the vehicle was passenger Dustin C. France, 36, of Nampa. The right rear tire blew out, and Daniel lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle struck a guardrail on the right shoulder, ejecting both Daniel and France.
Neither Daniel nor France were wearing seatbelts. Both subjects were transported to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise – Daniel via air ambulance and France via ground ambulance.
The westbound lanes of travel were intermittently blocked for approximately 2 hours as emergency crews worked to clear the scene.
