On July 6th, 2013, at approximately 11:55 a.m., Idaho State Police investigated a motorcycle crash on State Highway 55 near milepost 58, on Horseshoe Bend Hill. Mike Basye, 54, of Boise, was travelling southbound on a Harley Davidson motorcycle when a deer came onto the roadway. Basye struck the deer, lost control, and was thrown from the motorcycle.

Basye was attended by paramedics at the scene, and later transported by air ambulance to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center. He was not wearing a helmet. The crash is still under investigation.
