On May 3, 2015, at 8:07 pm, Idaho State Police investigated a fatality crash eastbound on US26 at mile marker 278, north of Atomic City.

William E. Rider, 72, of Blackfoot, was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed on the Main Road To Hwy 26 in a 2003 Jaguar X-Type . Rider failed to negotiate the curve after failing to stop at the stop sign at US26 driving off the north side of US26. The vehicle rolled coming to rest on its wheels.

Rider succumbed to his injuries at the scene. He was wearing a seatbelt. Next of kin has been notified.

Idaho State Police was assisted by Bingham County Sheriff Office.
