On Friday, September 20th, around 12:37 AM, the Idaho State Police responded to a report of a vehicle versus train crash in Athol, Idaho. A maroon 2008 Ford F250 pickup, driven by Robert Miller (34 year old male of Athol, Idaho), stopped on the railroad crossing westbound on SH54. A passing southbound Amtrak train collided with the vehicle. Miller was pronounced deceased at the scene. Miller was not wearing a seatbelt. There were no other occupants in the vehicle. No one on the train was injured. Next of kin have been notified.

Due to damage to the railroad crossing arms and signals, flaggers will be doing manual traffic control for passing trains. Please use caution if driving through the area.
