On April 9 2019, around 1:48 PM, the Idaho State Police attempted to contact a driver headed towards a road closure. The driver, Michael H Gerten, 37 year old male of Nezperce, Idaho, failed to yield, and the pursuit was discontinued due to weather and road conditions. Subsequently Gerten failed to negotiate a curve on Old State Highway 7 near milepost 47, near Orofino, Idaho. Gerten was driving a white 2017 Dodge Ram pickup. Gerten was initially transported by ground EMS to Clearwater Valley Hospital in Orofino, then transported by air ambulance to St Joseph Regional Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries. Next of kin have been notified. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. The investigation continues.
