Fatal motorcycle crash near Smelterville, Shoshone County

Idaho State Police are investigating a single vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 10:25 AM on September 7th, 2025, westbound I90 at milepost 48.5 near Smelterville in Shoshone County.

A 67-year-old male of Kingston, ID, was driving a 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle with his passenger, a 66-year-old female of Kingston, ID, when the back tire blew on the motorcycle. The motorcycle lost control and crashed. Both subjects were wearing helmets. The female passenger’s helmet came off during the crash. The female passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene. The male driver was transported to a local hospital via ambulance.

The right lane of the roadway was blocked for approximately two hours. Next of kin has been notified. The investigation is ongoing.
