On September 8th, at 02:30 am, the Idaho State Police responded to a one vehicle fatality crash in the 500 block of Main Street in Lapwai, Idaho. Aretha Everett, 44 year old female, of Lapwai, Idaho, was driving a blue 2008 Ford Expedition, southbound on Main Street at a high rate of speed, approaching Bever Road. The vehicle left the roadway, striking a tree head on. Neither Everett or her passenger, Kaliel Day, 21 year old male, of Lapwai, Idaho, were wearing their seatbelts. Everett succumbed to her injuries sustained in the crash. Day was transported to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Lewiston. Alcohol is suspected as a factor in the crash. Next of kin has been notified. Investigation is ongoing.
