Fatality Crash on State Highway 44 West of Star

STAR, Idaho – Idaho State Police is investigating a fatality crash that occurred on SH44 near Star.

Idaho State Police (ISP) is investigating a fatality crash that occurred at 8:40 p.m. on July 18, 2024, on State Highway 44 at mile marker 8.9 west of Star, in Canyon County.

A white 2005 Chevrolet Silverado was driving westbound on SH44. The driver, a 30-year-old man from Middleton, crossed into the eastbound lanes to overtake a semi-truck. A juvenile, with two juvenile passengers, was driving eastbound on SH44 in a silver 2011 Ford Focus. The Chevrolet pickup struck the Ford Focus head-on in the eastbound lane of travel.

The driver of the Chevrolet was not wearing his seatbelt and was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital. The two passengers of the Ford Focus were transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital. The driver of the Ford Focus succumbed to their injuries on scene.

Both eastbound and westbound lanes were blocked for approximately four and a half hours to allow emergency responders to assist those involved and clear the scene.

This incident is still under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
