On November 19, at 8:56pm, the Idaho State Police responded to a single vehicle fatality crash on SH53 at 2, near Hauser Lake, in Kootenai County Idaho. Mercedes A Abernathey, 20 years old, of Rathdrum, Idaho was driving westbound on SH53 near milepost 2 in a black 1998 Subaru Legacy, when she drove off the right shoulder striking a guardrail. Abernathey overcorrected when reentering the roadway and slid off the left shoulder of the road, causing the vehicle to roll. The vehicle rolled to rest on the BNSF railroad right of way. Abernathey was not wearing a seatbelt. She was pronounced deceased at the scene. Next of kin has been notified. Investigation continues by the Idaho State Police.
