Fatality Crash South of Swan Lake

Idaho State Police is investigating a double fatality crash that occurred at 3:41 pm on Saturday, February 24, 2024, on US91 at mile post 24 in Bannock County.

An 86-year-old male from Preston, was driving a 2003 Buick northbound on US91 when the vehicle crossed over the center line and collided head on with a 2012 Nissan. The Nissan was driven by a 49-year-old male from Hyrum, UT.

The driver of the Buick succumbed to his injuries on scene. The passenger of the Nissan, a 53-year-old female also from Hyrum, succumbed to her injuries on scene. The driver of the Nissan was transported via air ambulance to a local hospital. All occupants of the Nissan were wearing their seatbelts.

The road was blocked for five hours to allow emergency personnel to assist those involved and clear the scene.

Idaho State Police was assisted by Bannock County Sheriff’s Office, Bannock County Search and Rescue, Downey Ambulance, Franklin County Ambulance, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Preston Police Department and Franklin County Fire Department.

Idaho State Police also thanks those that were on scene and assisted before law enforcement and emergency medical personnel arrived.

This incident remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
