Fatality Crash West of Malta

CASSIA COUNTY, Idaho – Idaho State Police is investigating a single-vehicle fatality crash that occurred Sunday, July 13, 2025, at approximately 6:53 A.M. on I84 at milepost 222.8 just north of Malta.

A 2026 Freightliner, driven by a 57-year-old male from Windermere, Florida, was traveling westbound on I84 when the driver left the roadway and overcorrected. The Freightliner rolled blocking both lanes of travel westbound.

The driver succumbed to his injuries at the scene and a 40-year-old male passenger, from Kissimmee, Florida, was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital.

The driver and passenger were both wearing their seat belts.

Both westbound lanes were blocked for approximately four hours while crew worked to assist those involved in the crash.

Idaho State Police were assisted by Cassia County Sheriff Office, Cassia County EMS, Cassia County Extraction, Declo QRU, Declo Fire, and Idaho Department of Transportation.

This crash is still under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
