On Monday, January 14, 2019, at 12:44 p.m., the Idaho State Police investigated a fatality crash westbound I84 at milemarker 23, west of Caldwell.

Michael Kreider, 36, of Vale, OR, was traveling westbound in the right lane of I84 in a 2003 Chrysler Town & County. Kreider swerved to avoid traffic ahead that was slowed from a previous crash and lost control. He crossed into the left lane of travel and collided with a 2016 Freightliner semi-truck and trailer, being driven by Ronald Patterson, 49, of Ormond Beach, FL.

Kreider succumbed to his injuries on scene. Next of kin has been notified. Patterson was wearing a seatbelt and was not transported.

This crash is under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
