Idaho Missing Persons Day to mark 25 years since Amber Hoopes disappearance

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho — Idaho Missing Persons Day, observed annually on Sept. 14, will mark 25 years since the disappearance of Amber Hoopes from Idaho Falls. Established in 2006 in recognition of Hoopes’ disappearance, the day honors her and all those who remain missing across Idaho while renewing attention on their cases.

Hoopes was 20 years old when she disappeared from her home during the night of Sept. 14, 2001. Her disappearance remains unsolved.

As part of this year’s awareness campaign, the Idaho Missing Persons Clearinghouse is partnering with coffee shops in Idaho Falls to put missing-person cases directly into the hands of community members.

There are currently more than 180 open missing-person cases and more than 10 unidentified-person cases in Idaho. Anyone with information about an unsolved missing-person or cold case is encouraged to contact their local law enforcement agency.
