Idaho State Police “10 Counties of Christmas” Initiative Brings Holiday Meals to Families in Eastern Idaho
IDAHO FALLS, Idaho – Each year, Idaho State Police troopers extend their service beyond patrol duties by working to provide holiday meals to families across Eastern Idaho. Through the “10 Counties of Christmas” initiative, started in 2016 by ISP District 6 in Idaho Falls, troopers join with local partners and residents to help raise funds that help deliver warm holiday meals to families in ten counties: Bonneville, Madison, Fremont, Jefferson, Bingham, Teton, Clark, Butte, Custer, and Lemhi.
Beginning in November, troopers visit Broulim’s locations throughout the area to collect donations for Broulim’s to assist in this effort. Funds that are collected go towards Broulim’s and other partner’s to purchase food that will be delivered to the families. Thanks to the generosity of local patrons and generous business partners like Broulim’s grocery store, Westmark Credit Union, Idaho Pork Producers, Gomm’s Warm Cookies, Idahoan, and many others, troopers spread holiday cheer to those who need it most. Last year, the program reached over 475 families, each receiving a holiday meal package with essentials like hams, potatoes, turkeys, rolls, stuffing, canned goods, cookies, and drinks.
“Each year, we’re reminded that our service is about more than patrolling—it’s about uplifting those around us,” said Sgt. Blake Higley. “The 10 Counties of Christmas allows us to see this impact firsthand. When you hand someone a holiday meal and see the relief, gratitude, and joy in their eyes, it brings home why we’re here—to support others. The holiday season is about togetherness and hope, and through this program, we’re building connections that make that spirit come alive for every family we reach. Watching generosity flow in—from a dollar in a jar to time volunteered is amazing. We’re honored to be part of making the season brighter for so many.”
The initiative, powered by the dedication of both commissioned and civilian ISP personnel, mobilizes troopers and community members, including local high school students, to collect donations and deliver meals. Every donation, big or small, contributes to this meaningful cause.
With a focus on expanding the reach of this initiative each year, ISP looks forward to bringing holiday joy to even more families. ISP is profoundly grateful for the support and contributions from the community, making it possible to deliver the gift of a holiday meal to families. When you see a trooper at Broulim’s during the holiday season, remember that your support makes a real difference and lasting impact.
