Idaho State Police Announces Retirement of Colonel Kedrick Wills

MERIDIAN, Idaho—The Idaho State Police (ISP) announces Colonel Kedrick Wills’ retirement, effective August 15. Colonel Wills, a second-generation ISP trooper, has been a dedicated member of the agency since 1996 and has served as Colonel since 2017. His leadership, commitment to service, and dedication to the people of Idaho have left an indelible mark, and his absence will be deeply felt.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve alongside the dedicated men and women who selflessly protect the people of Idaho,” said Colonel Wills. “As I retire after 29 years with the Idaho State Police, I have witnessed this agency’s remarkable progress and evolution throughout my career. Together, we have upheld the highest law enforcement standards, ensuring the safety and security of our communities. I am immensely proud of what we have accomplished together and am confident that the ISP will continue to thrive and serve with excellence.”

After serving as a city law enforcement officer, Colonel Wills began his career with ISP in January 1996. He was first stationed as a resident trooper in southeastern Idaho. Throughout his career, he served in several geographical areas of Idaho in various assignments and ranks. In July 2017, Colonel Wills was asked by the Honorable Governor Butch Otter to serve as a member of his cabinet as the Director of the Idaho State Police. In January 2020, the Honorable Governor Brad Little asked Colonel Wills to continue to lead the Idaho State Police, and the Idaho State Senate again confirmed him.

Throughout his leadership tenure, Colonel Wills has served as a member of the Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST), the Idaho Criminal Justice Commission, and as a member of the Idaho Board of Medicine. Colonel Wills served as the International Association of Chiefs of Police State and Provincial Section Mountain Pacific Regional Chairman and holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Idaho State University. He also graduated from the FBI National Academy, Session #232, and the Naval Postgraduate School Center for Homeland Defense and Security Executive Leaders Program. Colonel Wills and his wife, Johanna, and their four children love everything living in Idaho offers.

Under Colonel Wills’ leadership, the ISP has experienced significant growth and advancement. His tenure has been marked by a steadfast commitment to tradition and a forward-thinking approach to modern law enforcement. Colonel Wills has championed numerous initiatives to enhance public safety, including technological advancements, improved training programs, and strengthened community partnerships.

As Colonel Wills steps down, the ISP will continue its mission to protect and serve the people of Idaho, guided by the principles of honor, duty, and service that have been the cornerstone of Colonel Kedrick Wills’ distinguished career.
