Idaho State Police Forensic Services awards grant funding for sexual assault program

POCATELLO, Idaho — Idaho State Police Forensic Services has awarded grant funding to support Portneuf Medical Center’s Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program. The funding will enhance the program’s sexual assault evidence capabilities.

The award will provide new forensic photography equipment and evidence collection supplies to strengthen the program’s ability to serve sexual assault patients in the Pocatello area. The largest purchase is a CortexFlo SDFI forensic camera system costing approximately $20,000.

The camera system will provide higher-resolution forensic photography, built-in alternate light capabilities and secure image storage. These features will help nurses document evidence during forensic examinations and manage sensitive patient photographs.

“This funding is more than a financial contribution; it is an investment in our program. It will enhance our capabilities so we can provide quality forensic services to the communities we serve,” said Robyn Harding, a registered nurse and emergency department charge nurse at Portneuf Medical Center. 

The award is one of six grants funded through the Services, Training, Officers and Prosecutors (STOP) Violence Against Women Grant Program to strengthen local sexual assault response across Idaho.
