The Idaho State Police Bureau of Criminal Identification released their annual “Crime In Idaho” report for 2014 today, July 1, 2015. The report is a synopsis of statewide crime statistics gathered from law enforcement agencies across Idaho and includes such things as the Statewide Crime Profile, Crimes against Persons, Property, Society, the Arrest Profile, Hate Crime in Idaho, Law Enforcement Officers Killed or Assaulted, crimes categorized by jurisdiction and many other statistics.

Highlights from the “Facts at a Glance” page and the changes from those categories from 2013 include:

Crimes Against Persons, Crimes Against Property, Crimes Against Society are classified as Group “A” Offenses, have decreased 1.9% from 2013.

The crime rate in Idaho is 4,650.3 per 100,000 inhabitants. This statistic is based on Group “A” Offenses and has decreased 2.0%.

The number of Violent Crimes has decreased 1.6% from 2013 with 3,180 violent crime offenses reported to law enforcement. Idaho is ranked 43rd in the US for violent crime rate, per “Crime in US 2013.”

Crimes Against Persons were up 0.8% with 17,008 reported crimes. Twenty-one and one-half percent (21.5%) of victims of crimes against persons were under 18 years of age. The most frequent month of crime occurrence was July and the least frequent was November.

In 2014, there were not any law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty in Idaho. However, the number of assaults against law enforcement officers was up 7.5% from 2013, with a total of 286 assaults on officers.

Hate Crimes were down 18.7% from 2013 with 26 reported hate crimes.

Crimes Against Society were up 2.2% from last year with 18,098 crimes reported. Drug/Narcotic Violations and Drug Equipment Violations accounted for 94.4% of Crimes Against Society.

Crimes Against Property were down 4.6% with 43,480 reported crimes. The top five property items stolen were money, automobiles, jewelry/precious metals, tools and computer hardware.
