Idaho State Police to recognize three individuals for lifesaving actions in Boise County crash

BOISE COUNTY, Idaho — The Idaho State Police will recognize three individuals for their heroic, lifesaving actions following a double fatality crash on March 7, 2026, in Boise County.

A family of four was traveling on Arrow Rock Road when their truck left the roadway, rolled down an embankment, and entered the reservoir. The father and a toddler died in the crash. The mother and another young child survived because of the lifesaving actions of three individuals.

Three witnesses to the crash entered the freezing water. Two swam to the sinking vehicle and assisted in extricating the occupants, while the third remained near the bank to help bring them safely out of the water. Their actions saved the young child’s life and directly contributed to the mother’s successful escape from the vehicle.

“There’s no question this could have ended very differently,” Capt. Mike Winans said. “Their willingness to act without hesitation is the reason lives were saved that day.”

ISP plans to publicly recognize these individuals for their bravery on Friday at 1 p.m. in Meridian. Media planning to attend is asked to contact PIO Sophia Miraglio at 208-989-0837.
