On Saturday, October 5, 2013 at approximately 7:30 p.m., the Idaho State Police investigated a two-vehicle injury crash on US Highway 26 at milepost 349, near Ririe. Zachary T. Newton, 20, of Mackay, was traveling east on US Highway 26 on a 1982 Suzuki motorcycle. Rafael C. Sepulveda, 35, of Idaho Falls, pulled onto the highway in a 2006 Ford F350 to travel west. Newton was passing two vehicles in a no passing zone when he struck Sepulveda's vehicle in the westbound lane.

Newton was transported by air ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls. He was not wearing a helmet. The road was blocked for approximately one hour and twenty minutes. This crash is under investigation by the Idaho State Police, who were assisted on scene by Jefferson County and Bonneville County emergency crews and personnel.
