UPDATE/CORRECTION: The driver of the Honda was booked for Aggravated Reckless Driving, not the driver of the Subaru as previously reported.

On March 3, 2025 at approximately 0940 hours, both Central Dispatch and the Idaho State Police Regional Communications Center received multiple complaints of a red Honda SUV, traveling south on US 95 from milepost 449 in excess of 100 mph with its emergency flashers activated.
An ISP Trooper responded from Mineral and Aqua in Coeur d’ Alene. As the trooper pulled up to the red light northbound on US 95 at Hayden, he saw the speeding Honda southbound approaching Hayden at a high rate of speed. Eastbound traffic had a green light and started to enter the intersection. The driver of the Honda ran the red light and caused a t-bone crash with a silver Subaru Legacy.
The Subaru came to rest blocking the southbound lanes of travel. The Honda crossed the median, nearly striking the responding trooper and rolled. It came to rest on the bike path between US 95 and Super 1 foods.
The Trooper immediately rendered aid as well as Kootenai County Sheriff’s Deputy who was nearby. At no time was the vehicle ever involved in a pursuit with law enforcement. The driver of the Subaru was booked into the Kootenai County Jail for Aggravated Reckless Driving, a felony, after being medically cleared.
Idaho State Police continues to investigate the incident.
