On June 6, 2013, at approximately 11:00 a.m., a Bingham County Sheriff's Deputy was transporting a juvenile female from the Bingham County Jail in Blackfoot to the 3B Detention facility in Idaho Falls. The juvenile was restrained by both a belly-chain with handcuffs and hobbles on her feet. She was seatbelted in the backseat of the transport vehicle.
At approximately milepost 99 on Interstate 15, the juvenile removed her seatbelt and opened the rear passenger-side window of the car. The deputy was able to see the juvenile trying to escape, and significantly reduced the vehicle speed before she maneuvered herself out of the open window, and fell to the pavement
The deputy stopped his vehicle, rendered assistance to the juvenile, and requested medical assistance. The juvenile was transported to the Bingham County Memorial Hospital by ground ambulance.
The investigation is on-going.
